MAC Cosmetics

Take a look behind the scenes at the recent Academy Makeup & Hair Chapter Masterclass

Makeup Industry professionals across Film, Television & Fashion joined IFTA chapter Members and Guests at a very special IFTA & MAC Makeup & Hair Masterclass at The Gibson Hotel, Dublin on Wednesday October 23rd, hosted by TV3’s Karen Koster and MAC Senior Artist Lesley Keane.

An invaluable learning & networking event for professionals working behind the camera, guests were treated to a live demonstration from Lesley as she displayed her expert techniques creating old-style Hollywood Glamour looks on her models.  Harking back to classic icons such as Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn & Veronica Lake up to modern-day beauty Angelina Jolie, the event was a thorough & informative look at the detailed craftsmanship behind the creation of these decadent, timeless looks for the screen using MAC Products.  The look was completed using Hair Stylist Michael Leong & Fashion Stylist Roxanne Parker (Irish Tatler) who complimented the models makeup with classic Hollywood curls & beautiful evening wear. The Masterclass was part of IFTA & MAC’s long-standing partnership & a key learning initiative which ensures that IFTA Members skills are maintained at an industry standard on a global scale.

Among the attending guests and participants were IFTA Makeup & Hair Award Winners including  Oscar Nominee Lynn Johnston (2012) whose past work includes Albert Nobbs, Breakfast on Pluto & and King Arthur. Lynn was joined at the event by fellow Award-winner for Albert Nobbs, Lorraine Glynn with whom she recently completed Ken Loach’s new film Jimmy’s Hall in Sligo. Makeup Department professionals from RTÉ and TV3 also attended the Masterclass along with other guests including some key beauty & fashion editorial representatives from leading Irish publications.

What the guest said on the night:

IFTA It’s so important that MAC is involved with IFTA so closely, that we are there as a support network to people working in the industry, educating them about product and about what’s new & happening. I think it’s a relationship that’s really grown & prospered and it’s been equally beneficial for us as it has been for IFTA over the years and it’s something that we’re incredibly proud of.

Lesley Keane M·A·C Senior Artist, Ireland
IFTA I think Irish Makeup artists can equal anybody... it’s always important to have an Academy standard in any country to show Ireland as a competitor on the international market, especially in terms of the award for Make-Up & Hair. These educational events are good for bringing everyone together, to raise awareness about the industry as a whole & to keep up with the trends and new MAC products.

Lynn Johnston, IFTA Makeup & Hair Award Winner & Oscar Nominee 2012 (Albert Nobbs)
IFTA I think we’re very much holding our own on a world stage. The Irish Makeup artists have a polish to them that is lacking even in other countries, they know what it’s about.

Events like this are so important, to be able to see first-hand how another professional Makeup artist does her craft is invaluable. You get to a certain stage in your career & you almost find a standstill because you’ve reached a level so to be able to watch other artists in this environment, working with new techniques & products is amazing & you learn so much.
