Four time Oscar nominated writer/director Pete Docter (Monster’s Inc, WALL•E, Toy Story) and producer Jonas Rivera will attend an exclusive preview screening of their latest feature length animation, ‘UP’, from the Disney•Pixar company. The duo will participate in a post screening Q&A with Members of the Irish Film & Television Academy.
Docter and Rivera will be interviewed by Derek O’Connor (programmer of the Darklight Film Festival) and will discuss the making of the film using the latest cutting edge technology available Disney•Pixar, their careers to date and the future of animation. The duo are also attending the Venice Film Festival where they will pay tribute to Pixar legend John Lasseter who is receiving the Golden Lion award for lifetime achievement at the Italian festival.
With actors including Christopher Plummer, Ed Asner and Bob Peterson lending their vocal talents to the film, ‘UP’ invites you on a hilarious journey into a lost world, with the least likely duo on Earth. IFTA Members and their guests will also be among the first to view this hotly anticipated feature in Disney Digital 3-D.
‘UP’ is a comedy adventure about 78-year-old balloon salesman Carl Fredricksen, who finally fulfils his lifelong dream of a great adventure when he ties thousands of balloons to his house and flies away to the wilds of South America. But he discovers all too late that his biggest nightmare has stowed away on the trip: an overly optimistic 9-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell.
This preview screening is part of the IFTA Academy’s series of summer/autumn events and will take place in Dublin on 13 September. Other forthcoming highlights in the IFTA calendar include a preview screening of family film ‘Where the Wild Things Are’; and the IFTA Music Forum 2009: Music for the Moving Image, which takes place in Dublin this Friday and includes an exclusive preview screening of ‘The Soloist’ with special guest, ‘The Soloist’ composer and Oscar winner, Dario Marianelli (Atonement).
