Irish Academy launches the ‘IFTA - Women in Focus’ event series

The Irish Film & Television Academy is delighted to announce a new series of events focusing on the work, achievements and personalities of women in the Irish film and television industry.
In a new concept series, titled IFTA Women in Focus: Film & Television, the Irish Academy has invited its Members, and some the most recognised and respected females in the world of film and TV, to speak about their chosen career paths, to share some of their knowledge and experience and work life balance. The first event will take place on Wednesday, April 20th in The Shelbourne Hotel with IFTA Academy Member, Best Actress Winner and Comedian Deirdre O’Kane. Other leading figures, Miriam O’Callaghan, Sharon Horgan and Amy Huberman, are among the other women confirmed to speak throughout the year. The Irish Academy is also delighted to announce their partnership with Davy on this event series.
Deirdre O’Kane, who has recently been announced as MC for the upcoming IFTA Film & Drama Awards at the Mansion House on April 9th. Deirdre is a multiple IFTA nominee and won the IFTA for Best Actress Film in 2015 for her portrayal of humanitarian Christina Noble in Stephen Bradley’s ‘Noble’. Other film and television credits of O’Kane’s include Intermission, Dollhouse, The Clinic and all three seasons of Chris O’Dowd’s Moone Boy. Deirdre is also a stand up comedian with Irish and international headline shows.
