Having just graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama (Cardiff) BA (Hons) Degree course in 2009, Clare was cast in the leading role of Pegeen Mike in Druid Theatre Company’s acclaimed production of Playboy of the Western World directed by Garry Hynes for a national UK and tour.
Clare was last seen on stage in her one woman show Sure Look It, Fuck It at the Project Arts Centre, she also appeared in the one woman show Grounded by George Brant, directed by Selina Cartmell for which she was nominated for a Best Performer Award at the Dublin Fringe Festival 2015.
Clare appeared in Herself, written by and starring Clare for which she won the 2021 IFTA for Best Script, directed by Phyllida Lloyd and produced by Element and Merman. Herself premeried at the 2020 Sundance Film Festival to rave reviews and was picked up for international distribution by Amazon Studios. Herself has been nominated for a British Independent Film Award (2021) for Best Actress for Clare Dunne, for a CSA Award (2021) for Outstanding Achievement in Casting, it was also nominated for Best Actor Supporting Role (Conleth Hill), Best Production Design, Best Actress Lead Role (Clare Dunne), Best Film and Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 2021 IFTA Awards. It won the Women Film Critic Circle Award for 2021 for ‘Women Saving Themselves’ and the Dublin International Film Festival Discovery Award (Clare Dunne) and the Human Rights Film Award (Phyllida Lloyd) in 2020.
She plays Amanda Kinsella on the hit crime drama KIN, for which she has won two IFTA Awards. She will next be seen opposite Cillian Murphy in Small Things Like These.
