Paul Mescal is an Irish actor who studied Acting at The Lir Academy before working in theatre in Dublin and London. He performed in The Great Gatsby, The Plough and the Stars, Asking For It and The Lieutenant of Inishmore before moving into television and film.
Mescal's breakthrough role came in the television adaptation of Sally Rooney's novel, Normal People, for which he won both an IFTA Award and a BAFTA Award for his performance. Since then he has starred in The Lost Daughter with fellow IFTA member Jessie Buckley, and in the psychological drama God's Creatures with Aisling Franciosi.
Mescal has also lent his talents to music videos, appearing in the video for The Rolling Stones song 'Scarlet' and in Phoebe Bridgers' music video for 'Savior Complex'.
He received his first Oscar nomination, and won an IFTA, for his acclaimed performance in Charlotte Wells' independent drama Aftersun. In 2024, he won an IFTA for his supporting performance in Andrew Haigh's drama All of Us Strangers.
He will next star in Ridley Scott's highly anticipated Gladiator sequel opposite Denzel Washington.
