Producing Masterclass with Alan Moloney

IFTA in association with Screen Ireland is delighted to present a Producing Masterclass with Alan Moloney, acclaimed producer of Film and TV including the upcoming Small Things Like These, as well as Intermission, Breakfast on Pluto, The Siege of Jadotville and The Clinic; founder of Parallel Film Productions; and co-founder of Big Things Films alongside Oscar winner Cillian Murphy. The event will be moderated by James Morris, founder of Windmill Lane.
In this IFTA Masterclass, Alan will share his knowledge and expertise as a producer, giving insights into various stages of development; choosing the right projects; attracting talent, sourcing financing across features and TV drama; collaborating with directors and screenwriters; working internationally, co-producing and working with streaming platforms such as Netflix. He will also share insights into Big Things Films and its dynamic new approach.
The event will take place on Thursday, 19th September 2024, 6pm at the Light House Cinema, Dublin followed by a Networking Reception.
Alan has been producer and executive producer on films including Neil Jordan’s Breakfast on Pluto, Byzantium and Marlowe (Liam Neeson); John Crowley’s Intermission; Aisling Walsh’s Maudie (Ethan Hawke); Richie Smyth’s The Siege of Jadotville (Jamie Dornan); Rodrigo García’s Oscar-nominated Albert Nobbs (Glenn Close); Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire (Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor); Rupert Wyatt’s The Escapist (Brian Cox); Ian Fitzgibbon’s A Film With Me In It and Perrier's Bounty; and Nora Twomey’s My Father’s Dragon.
He has produced the new V-U2 An Immersive Concert Film at Sphere Las Vegas, capturing U2’s recent run of concerts at Sphere Las Vegas, which will premiere this month at the one-of-a-kind venue. He also directed the 2020 documentary Windmill Lane, which premiered at Dublin International Film Festival. Alan’s films have been nominated for numerous awards including Oscars, Golden Globes, IFTAs, and BAFTAs.
Alan established the award winning Parallel Film Productions in Dublin in 1993. The company is now a market leader in feature film and television drama in the UK and Ireland. This year, he launched a new production company Big Things Films with frequent collaborator, Oscar winner Cillian Murphy. The company’s first feature film, Small Things Like These, opened the 2024 Berlin Film Festival and will be released in Ireland in November. Its second project Steve has recently completed shooting, with further projects in production including Blood Runs Coal.
The event will be moderated by James Morris. James is the founder of Windmill Lane Pictures, founder of TV3 (Virgin Media TV) and former chair of Screen Ireland.
