Directed by Damian McCann (Doineann) and co-written by McCann and Sarah Gordon, Aontas sees three unlikely thieves, led by a woman on the verge of a breakdown, rob a rural Irish Credit Union. Opening in the tragic aftermath of the heist-gone-wrong, the story uses reverse chronology to unravel the events that led to this point. What starts as a poorly executed robbery becomes a portrait of a wilful woman trapped in her own past. Aontas is a fractured puzzle about the impact of our choices and the memories that we can’t escape.
Starring Carrie Crowley, Bríd Brennan, Eva-Jane Gaffney, Seán T. Ó Meallaigh, Marcus Lamb and Art Parkinson, Aontas was produced by Órfhlaith Ní Chearnaigh and Christopher Myers, with original music by acclaimed composer Daithi O'Dronai (Lakelands, Christy)
“A cinematic exercise in how far you can take a classic narrative and get away with it.”
