The Irish Film and Television Academy (IFTA) is delighted to present this special ONLINE discussion for Dating Amber with Writer/Director David Freyne, DoP Ruairí O'Brien and lead actors Lola Petticrew and Fionn O'Shea in attendance, as part of the Irish Academy awards viewing season.
Dating Amber: Eddie is determined to follow his father’s footsteps and enlist in the military after graduation. Amber plans to move to London to finally be free. Dreams are good, but dreams do not help when in the school yard you are challenged with accusations of being gay or lesbian. Two high school students in a small, conservative town near Dublin decide to fake a relationship to stop the rumors about their sexual orientation. They have the perfect plan and impersonate the perfect couple. The plan seems solid, but Eddie’s denial of his sexual orientation is growing, just as Amber realizes that living in a closet is a toxic and unhealthy thing to do.
