Edward Norton - IFTA Masterclass

The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) is delighted to present a special Academy Masterclass with renowned actor and filmmaker Edward Norton, three-time Oscar nominated star of American History X, Fight Club, Birdman, Primal Fear, Glass Onion and much more. 

This masterclass is supported by Screen Ireland and takes place on Saturday 23rd November 2024, 3pm at the Light House Cinema.

Edward Norton is widely regarded as one of the most versatile and accomplished actors of his generation. With a remarkable filmography that spans over 50 features, he has not only acted in but also produced 13 films, penned 5 screenplays, and directed 2 projects. Norton has garnered critical acclaim, earning three Academy Award nominations for his powerful performances in Primal Fear, American History X and Birdman. His accolades include nominations for three Screen Actors Guild Awards, two BAFTAs, and two Golden Globes, culminating in wins for a Golden Globe, an Emmy, an Obie, and numerous other prestigious honors.e

Most recently, he was seen in Asteroid City which marked Norton’s fifth collaboration with director Wes Anderson. He also recently captivated audiences as Miles Bron in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which quickly became one of the most-watched films in Netflix history, further solidifying his status as a key player in contemporary cinema.

Released in 2019, Norton’s most recent work as writer and director was Motherless Brooklyn, a deeply resonant exploration of hidden power and the threats of autocracy in America. Renowned filmmaker and historian Ken Burns praised the film as "nothing less than a modern masterpiece," highlighting Norton's exceptional talent behind and in front of the camera.

Later this year, Norton will be seen starring as Pete Seeger in James Mangold's A Complete Unknown for Searchlight opposite Timothée Chalamet. The film depicts Bob Dylan's rise to the top of the music charts as his songs and mystique become a worldwide sensation.

Throughout his career, he has collaborated with directors including David Fincher, Ridley Scott, Spike Lee, Alejandro González Iñárritu, James Mangold and Danny DeVito. 

At this special Academy Masterclass, Norton will discuss his skilled approach to screen acting and working with filmmakers to craft iconic roles, as well as his success as a screenwriter and director.
