IFTA is delighted to present a Masterclass in Acting with Liam Cunningham, the award-winning star of Netflix’s blockbuster hit 3 Body Problem, as well as Game of Thrones, Hunger and The Wind That Shakes The Barley.
A part of the Academy's ongoing Casting Conversations series, this event will take place on Wednesday, 26th June 2024, 6pm at the IFI Screen 1, Eustace Street.
Cunningham is a multiple IFTA winner, having been recognised for his roles in HBO’s epic fantasy Game of Thrones; and his performances in Steve McQueen’s Hunger, opposite Michael Fassbender, and in Ken Loach’s The Wind That Shakes The Barley, opposite Cillian Murphy.
He is currently playing Thomas Wade in Netflix’s major international sci-fi series 3 Body Problem. He is also the winner of a BAFTA for his short film Pitch Black.
Cunningham has also appeared in films including Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, John Michael McDonagh’s The Guard, Neil Jordan’s Breakfast On Pluto, The Childhood of a Leader, Good Vibrations, Perrier’s Bounty, Harry Brown, Clash of the Titans, Into the West, Safe House, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, First Knight, Dog Soldiers; and TV series including Cracker, Falling for a Dancer, Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites, Domina, The Clinic, Merlin, Doctor Who and Masters of the Universe: Revelation.
Cunningham has co-starred alongside leading names including Denzel Washington, Liam Neeson, Sean Connery, Richard Gere, Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson, Emily Watson, Don Cheadle, Ryan Reynolds, Maria Bello, Gemma Arterton, Mark Strong, Gabriel Byrne, Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes, Brendan Fraser and Michael Caine.
At this special Academy Conversation, Cunningham will discuss his approach to screen acting, the skill of developing a character across multi-series TV dramas, collaborating with directors on set, the differences between working on Irish and international projects, as well as discussing his current and upcoming slate of roles.
