Documentary director Maurice Sweeney has a diverse and acclaimed filmography.
Director Maurice Sweeney has made some of the most talked about documentaries on Irish television in the last ten years. Well-known for diverse projects including Cromwell in Ireland, Flann O Brien: The Lives of Brian, The Irish of 9/11 and WB Yeats No Country for Old Men, Maurice has also delved into dramatic territory with the docu-drama Saving the Titanic (starring David Wilmot and Liam Cunningham) and more recently The Roaring Boy and After Braveheart.
In Focus will explore Maurice’s acclaimed IFTA award-winning work across his arts documentaries, sports documentaries and docu-dramas.
For the last ten years, Maurice has been regarded as one of Ireland’s leading drama / documentary filmmakers, winning five Irish Film &Television Academy awards. Having worked on diverse films from drama documentaries Cromwell In Ireland, to creative portraits of Irish writer Flann O’ Brien and crime writer John Connolly, Maurice directed his first major drama feature, Saving The Titanic, to wide critical acclaim. The film has been sold throughout the world, including America, Canada and Britain winning numerous international awards.
In 2010, Maurice filmed and directed the widely acclaimed The Forgotten Irish, dealing with the emigration to Britain in the 1950's.
In recognition for his film work, Maurice was selected as a board member of The Irish Film Board in 2013.
