Dunford is a graduate of the Gaiety School of Acting. His screen credits include Raw for RTÉ, An Crisis Eile for TG4, Game of Thrones for HBO, and a recurring role on the History Channel's Vikings. He has also appeared in productions at the Cork Midsummer Festival, the Kinsale Arts and the Dublin Fringe Festival.

His supporting role in Twelve Years A Slave won him an IFTA as well as garnering him an Oscar nomination.

Credits include What Richard Did, Transformers: Age of Extinction and the upcoming adaptation of Shakespeare's Macbeth.
