Dunford is a graduate of the Gaiety School of Acting. His screen credits include Raw for RTÉ, An Crisis Eile for TG4, Game of Thrones for HBO, and a recurring role on the History Channel's Vikings. He has also appeared in productions at the Cork Midsummer Festival, the Kinsale Arts and the Dublin Fringe Festival.

Boyhood is a 2014 American independent coming-of-age drama film, written and directed by Richard Linklater, and starring Patricia Arquette, Ellar Coltrane, Lorelei Linklater, and Ethan Hawke. Shot intermittently from 2002 to 2013, Boyhood depicts the adolescence of Mason Evans, Jr. (Coltrane) from ages six to eighteen as he grows up in Texas with divorced parents (Arquette and Hawke).
