Fair City first went to air on RTÉ in 1989 and has aired over 4,000 episodes, with a regular audience of up to 700,000 viewers. It chronicles the daily lives of the people of Carraigstown, a fictional town in North Dublin. Fair City was nominated for the IFTA for Best Drama Series/Soap in both 2009 and 2010. Enda Oates who plays Pete Ferguson received the IFTA for Best Male Performance at the 2015 awards ceremony.
Red Rock is now entering its second season and is commissioned by TV3. The recent debut of the first season on BBC One drew in audience numbers of 1.1M. The show centres on the local Garda station of a fictional seaside town. Of a total seven nominations, Red Rock received three IFTAs at the 2015 ceremony. These were for Soap & Continuing Drama, 'Director Soap/Comedy for director Lisa Mulcahy and 'The People’s Choice TV Show Of The Year’.
Ros na Rún has been airing for 21 years and recently launched its 22nd season. The Irish language show centres on a fictional town in Spiddal, Co. Galway and is broadcast by TG4. The show's many IFTA nominations include several for Best Drama Series/Soap, its promotion of the Irish Language, and Best Actor and Best Actress nominations in 2003 for Peadar Cox and Joan Sheehy, respectively.
